  • Kayak Rentals Are Open for the Season

Kayak rentals are open for the season. Singles and tandems are on the rack, PFDs are inventoried, and the municipal ramp two blocks away is clear of winter ice (finally).

Half-day and full-day rates are on the Services page. Weekend mornings go first — call (218) 555-0142 if you need a guaranteed boat for Saturday.

New this year: a soft cooler loaner with tandem rentals while supplies last. Return it with the paddles; Cedar will judge you if it’s sticky.

  • Extended Weekend Hours Through Labor Day

Good news for early paddlers: Harbor & Pine is on extended weekend hours through Labor Day.

    • Saturdays: 8:00am – 7:00pm
    • Sundays: 9:00am – 5:00pm

That Saturday 8:00am open is deliberate — grab a rental before the municipal ramp line forms. After Labor Day we return to 9:00am Saturday opens unless the weather stays absurdly perfect (we’ll post if we do).

  • Starter Gear Guide: What We Actually Recommend

People ask what we’d buy with our own money. Short list from the floor this season:

    • Daypack: 18–22L with a real hip belt — not a fashion tote
    • Midlayer: grid fleece you can paddle in without overheating
    • Footwear: approach shoes with sticky rubber for wet dock boards
    • Dry bag: 10L is enough for phones, keys, and a soft shell

We’d rather sell you one solid layer than three trendy ones. Ask for a fit check anytime during open hours.

  • Late-Summer Packing List for the North Shore

Late summer on the North Shore means warm docks at noon and a sweater by the time the ferry horn sounds. Here’s what we pack for customers heading out after Labor Day crowds thin:

    • Light rain shell (fog rolls in fast off the lake)
    • Closed-toe shoes that can get wet at the ramp
    • Refillable bottle — the shop has a filtered tap
    • Printed trail snippet or offline map; cell coverage drops past Mile Marker 6

Stop by for a free packing check — we’ll tell you honestly if that “ultralight” jacket is just a wind shirt.
